Video Project

Here's my first pass at my video. I have a few changes I know I want to make this weekend, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Hi Rachel--This is a pretty good "first pass" I would say. You covered a lot of material in your video via interviews with other individuals. While I am uncertain whether you are going to add an update of the video to your site, I will offer some observations to this post. Your interviews went rather well I believe and the audio was rather clear. The only recommendation I have would be to use a tripod to steady the camera. However, the video is rather stable for hand-shooting if that is how it was done. Also, the footage of Blackboard is a bit fuzzy. I had the same problem with a video I worked on in the past. I used a screen capture program to capture some movements on screen and despite numerous tries to make the image more clear, it remained fuzzy. I thought that I perhaps needed a better software product such as Camtasia Studio. I do like your transitions that use bold color and contrasting text. The one point that was made in the video that stands out to me is that Blackboard now facilitates the use of blogs and wikis. I wasn't sure if this was the case but am happy to know that Blackboard continues to grow. Also, I think it was relevant and timely to mention how parents can become involved with their child's daily learning activities via the use of Blackboard. This certainly seems like an excellent reason to invest in technology if the parents are willing to become active participants in the education of their children. Also, I like that you used background music also. The same technique would be welcome in my presentation also I believe and I might add that if I release a v2.0 of the video.

I enjoyed your video and learned a number of things from hands-on interviews.
Thanks!
Shane.

Hi Rachel
Wow you did some neat stuff! (How non-PhD was that term?) I thought it was very creative how you had different people "give their testimonials." Then the way you overlayed the website over the person talking was quite effective, except, as Shane mentioned, the quality of the website was a bit fuzzy. I think you really practiced what you preached - which is to analyze our own experiences (hence the testimonials) before applying it to our student's experiences. I really liked that and thought it was very effective.

On a side note: Kelly Mill Middle School is that in Columbia S.C.? Just curious because I have done 2 workshops right down the road from a Kelly Mill Middle School in S.C. and am heading there again in two weeks for another workshop.

We are the one and only in Columbia, though technically we're Blythewood. Where are you doing your presentations? What are they on?

Ok,so we are so off topic right now. I am going to be at the YMCA that is just down the road from your school Friday and Saturday (Feb 20-21). I train instructors in a certain format of fitness. This is my third trip to that Y. So I drive by your school each time! And yes, it's Blythewood!

Rachel,
Nice job on the presentation. I appreciated the candid conversations on distance ed. juxtaposed with the instructor examples of how they extended learning beyond the classroom.
